Parlo a te, Barbara.

Parlo a voi, figli miei.

Hai fatto male i tuoi conti.

Parteciperò all’IRONMAN 2018 di BARCELLONA (SPAGNA).

ENGLISH VERSION

Pain can annihilate us, paralyze us and destroy us. I would like to show taht we all have the chance to fight it, just raise your head and set good against evil. Good for ourselves, good for life, good for all around us. If you are also overwhelmed by pain, know that I will take part in the BARCELONA 2018 IRONMAN ... a bit for you too!

This is the story of my beloved family.

Just over a year ago, fate has put a severe test on us.
After ten years of happy marriage, of a dream life, after the birth of our Tommaso Olivier in 2012 and in 2016 of our Emma Sophie, our journey together has been interrupted.

One month after Emma's birth, a cancer hit my wife Barbara. In a violent, ruthless way, without leaving even the time to breathe. A few months, too few.

Now I am here with my two wonderful children.

I'm talking to you, Barbara. I had the absolute privilege of being with you for ten years. No longer having you here with us pierces my heart. You suffered a lot. Too much. Unfairly. Being with you in every moment, up to the last, made me realize even more, if possible, of your immense strength. How much you've struggled, how much you've amazed everyone and everything with your energy, your smile, always and in any case, your beliefs, your constant planning. You taught me so much. I know the pain you feel in not being able to hug your Tommy and your Emma. But know all your energy is here with us. I will keep the promises I have made to you. Our children will grow well, in serenity, smile and irony. I want to show them that even from the tragedies we can go out, perhaps even stronger than before, that there is a wonderful world that awaits them and I will accompany them hand in hand until I stand up, until they will leave my hands and continue on their own. Flowers can be born among the rocks.

I’m talking to you, my children. It is and will be an immense honor to grow you. Change your diapers, my little Emma, prepare the baby food, play with you. Accompany you every day at school, Tommy: you're a beautiful, intelligent, caring little man. You've already taught me so much. You came to greet your mother with me, hand in hand, that day in May of a year ago and it was the strongest experience of my life. You've been a rock. We greeted our Barbara with a smile. You taught me that smile, I did not do much. You are already structured to face life. Dad is so proud of you.

And now I'm talking to you, damn cancer or whoever you are. Did you think to destroy our family? Did you think to move Barbara away from me and our children forever? Did you think of knocking me down and throw me into despair and surrender? You hurt your accounts.

I'm not a doctor, we could not defeat you physically. But we will defeat you by nullifying your consequences on our lives.

This is why I would like to demonstrate not only that I can do what I consider to be my absolute duty, that is, to be a 200% father, but, despite the thousands of daily and logistical difficulties, I am now facing a great personal challenge.

I will attend the IRONMAN 2018 in BARCELONA (SPAIN).

What is Ironman? The longest distance of triathlon: 3.8 km swimming at sea, 180 km of bike, 42 km of running.

Why Barcelona? Because it is the city where Barbara lived and spent most of her life.

What purpose? Pain can destroy us, overwhelm us. I would like to show that not only is it not so, but that if you raise your head there is a wonderful world before us. The most powerful weapon we have to face evil is to oppose our good, in all its forms, for ourselves, for our children, for all those around us.

But in addition to all this, with this challenge I would like to raise funds for cancer research, giving everything I gathered to the AIRC.

Let's make a small contribution together for the research to make sure that one day this terrible disease is a distant memory, that no one will have to suffer anymore. I will, figuratively, covering the Ironman distance. I would also like to demonstrate that such a challenge can be faced without "stealing" time from the family: training only early in the morning, when the children are still asleep, at lunch break from work and only one morning at the weekend, to face the longest workouts. As a soldier, I prepare for my war, but I am sure that all of you will be by my side.

I'm not a professional athlete, I will not do any records, it will already be an exceptional result to get to the end, head-on and not stopping. Nothing more. The goal is high. If you want to support my challenge and support the research against cancer, take part in this collection, dedicated to the only true warrior in this whole story: BARBARA CIANCIO PORTA.

Target collection: € 12000.00. I hope that all of you will swim, ride and run with me and that togeher twe will collect the maximum sum possible! Together against cancer. GAME ON, GUYS!
