In 1990 the first European MAPAL subsidiary was established in Italy. With a small office located in Le Ghiaie di Bonate Sopra, between Milan and Turin, intensive connections could be built up due to short distances to the major manufacturers of automotive and machine tools in these metropolises. Soon the location became too small, and the small team moved into larger premises. With the acquisition of the competitor Omus, MAPAL Italia integrated experienced employees and a strong production. The geographical separation from sales and administration, however, led to the construction of a complete new building with 1,500 square meters in Gessate in 2002, where sales, service, customer care and training as well as administration and production were included. Today more than 80 employees take care of production, sales, technical consulting, service and administration. In addition to the repair and optimization of fine boring tools, ISO and PCD tools are produced in Italy. The service program is also constantly being expanded. ​​​​​​​In 2015 the Northern Irish company Rainey Engineering was acquired in order to expand the production and regrinding capacities and possibilities in the solid carbide range.
