Among denied fundamental rights, lack of access to education is perhaps one of the most obvious examples of injustice: for girls and boys, participating to a school program often represents the only alternative to illiteracy, labour and sexual exploitation and early marriage. 

Moreover, for girls and young women the role of school is even more crucial and the only real route towards social and economic emancipation and the achievement of equality - a result which sadly seems far off. 

AMKA has been working for 20 years on the front line in the Katanga region, in the southern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, where I will be staying for about a month, too. Every day, thanks to their efforts, more than a thousand children attend the four schools in the villages of Kanyaka, Mose, Mataba and Myunga. The road, however, is still long.

My commitment will focus on a psycho-educational workshop for local teachers, but this project is only the beginning of a much bigger challenge. 

Our goal is to initiate a project to raise the quality of education so that the school is both a place of protection and an instrument for the emancipation of children. Within this framework, we want to train teachers so that they apply pedagogical techniques in their teaching strategies to encourage the participation of the youngest children and their active involvement in learning, taking into account the personal characteristics of each pupil. 

With the funds I will raise through this campaign, we will start an ongoing training course for all teachers with monthly meetings that will continue throughout the school year.

Tra i diritti fondamentali negati il mancato accesso all’istruzione è forse una delle ingiustizie più evidenti: aderire a un percorso scolastico spesso rappresenta per bambine e bambini l’unica alternativa all’analfabetismo, allo sfruttamento lavorativo e sessuale e ai matrimoni precoci. 

Inoltre, per bambine e ragazze il ruolo della scuola si conferma ancora più cruciale e l’unica vera via verso l'emancipazione sociale ed economica e il raggiungimento di una parità ancora molto lontana. AMKA opera da vent’anni in prima linea nella regione del Katanga, nella parte meridionale della Repubblica Democratica del Congo, dove anch’io resterò per circa un mese. Ogni giorno, grazie al suo impegno, più di mille bambine e bambini frequentano le quattro scuole nei villaggi di Kanyaka, Mose, Mataba e Myunga. La strada, però, è ancora lunga.

Il mio impegno si focalizzerà su un workshop di formazione psicopedagogica al team di insegnanti locali, ma questo progetto è solo l’inizio di una sfida molto più impegnativa. 

Il nostro obiettivo è avviare un progetto per innalzare la qualità dell’istruzione affinché la scuola sia al contempo luogo di protezione e strumento di emancipazione dell’infanzia. In questo quadro vogliamo formare gli insegnanti affinché applichino nell’insegnamento tecniche pedagogiche utili a favorire la partecipazione dei più piccoli e il loro coinvolgimento attivo nell’apprendimento, tendendo conto delle caratteristiche personali di ciascun/a alunno/a. 

Con i fondi che raccoglierò grazie a questa campagna avvieremo un corso di formazione continuativo rivolto a tutti gli insegnanti con incontri mensili che proseguiranno per tutto l’anno scolastico.
