Here I am with my kids. When I fell ill, Matteo was not yet 2 and his brother Federico was 4. At the time, for me a tumor meant death. So many losses in my life. When I fell ill, all these painful bricks turned into a mountain of fear, me into a scared little mouse. But I also had an immediate reaction: as a Milan born, living in Rome, I decided to go back to my home town, into the care of IEO, the Institute founded by Prof. Veronesi. And immediately, it was clear to me that yes, I was a "hurt" little mouse, but I could also break that mountain, throwing away brick after brick. For me, it was just like in Jovanotti’s song "each of my cells is an electron party / that’s the physics of feelings / it's science, Baby!” So, it doesn’t matter how much chemo or operations I had to undergo, there’s no point thinking about that. Just as there’s no point in fear, and you really don’t need that much courage. What you need is science, and research. When I fell ill, I thought I was going to die. Science and research saved me.Thus, I decided to stand up for this – or rather run for it… having never ran one meter in my life! – and sustain Fondazione Veronesi in funding more and more research projects.
So, to all my friends, those which have been close to me and those who never knew, those who think you need to be brave to overcome a tumor, to all of them I ask to celebrate with me 5 years from the end of my chemo, by making a donation which will help me to reach my goal: because it’s not courage, and certainly not luck, but it’s science Baby!
