Loading...

·      Summary

San Romolo Wood Festival is a summer event that takes place in the historical meadow of San Romolo, gathering together artists and inhabitants in order to empower the knowledge, conservation and employment of environmental resources for the local community.

During the day, professional artists guide the attendants in a variety of workshops, manipulating and crafting vegetal materials, exploring wood trails, playing music and dances in direct contact with nature. The San Romolo Wood Festival has been organized and held for the first time in August of 2015, its realization being monitored by the no-profit association ‘Popoli in Arte’ and partially subsidized by the town hall of Sanremo. Being positively approved by both the Sanremo inhabitants and authorities, the Festival represented a novel and unique event in the local context and offered an original ecological perspective over the opportunities rooted in the territory. It animated the interest for the safeguard and respect of the wood and helped to build-up plain and solid relationships among the participants. Therefore, ‘Popoli in Arte’ is looking after iterating the event. Regarding at the Wood Festival as an exceptional occasion for raising sustainable and ecological processes within the territory, we ask for the economical support to realize it once more in 2016. Your help is fundamental to continue the educational itinerary initiated in 2015 and strengthen the cooperation of artists and people for preserving the natural resources of San Romolo.

·      What we need and what you get

The occurring and success of the Festival depends critically on reasonable funding, in order to provide adequate materials and human resources for the workshops.

In the past year, 4000 euros were necessary to hold more than 12 laboratories. 200 people attended the workshops and positively reviewed the experience. So far, the Festival has received 2000 euro fundings from the townhall admnistration for 2016, so our goal is to raise the missing money by crowfunding, that is 2000 euros.

San Romolo is a small village located on the backcountry hills nearby Sanremo, a small town living up on tourism and olive cultivation. The peaceful and beautiful landscape surrounding San Romolo makes up an outstanding context for the Festival, in which you will have the opportunity of directly interacting with nature and artists, challenging yourself in handicraft skills, music and dance performances, advancing your ecology attitude.

·      Impact

The occurring of the Wood Festival in August of 2015 constituted a landmark event for the area of  San Romolo, disclosing the value of the environmental resources offered by the territory and the possibility of building a human network through artists and inhabitants, cooperating for preserving the wood landscape.

The Wood Festival promotes art as an educational tool for spreading ecology and sustainability concepts across a rural area, which has been neglected by institutions and authorities so far.

It represents an occasion for strengthening the relationship between the local population and its land, through the practice of art, dance and music, by collecting human resources around the meadow for the future of the area.

The Wood Festival raises the ecology awareness of San Romolo and its surrounding, assisting the transition towards a more sustainable and nature respectful society.
