Samburu Smile è un’associazione no-profit, nata nel 2013 dopo che Sergio Mazza, istruttore di minibasket ed ex giocatore professionista in seguito ad un viaggio in Kenya decide di provare a realizzare un suo sogno e creare una scuola di basket in Africa. Lo sport è il fulcro dell’intero progetto, che si pone come obiettivo primario quello di consentire l’accesso all’istruzione ai tantissimi bambini dei villaggi della zona di Samburu, a 550km a nord di Nairobi,  fornendo loro strumenti e opportunità di riscatto per migliorare le proprie condizioni di vita. Durante i mesi  di permanenza di ogni viaggio in Kenya, il lavoro di Sergio, e dei volontari che decidono di affiancarlo, è focalizzato sulla formazione degli allenatori locali, la costruzione e la manutenzione delle infrastrutture necessarie per svolgere l’attività sportiva delle Academy, e verificare che non ci siano problematiche particolare che ostacolino il percorso di crescita dei ragazzi che aderiscono al progetto. In questi anni sono stati formati 10 allenatori locali e sono nate 3 Basketball Academy, nei villaggi di Tuum, Suguta Marmar e Lodungoqwe. 43 sono le borse di studio assegnate fino ad oggi e sono più di 2000 i bambini che beneficiano del progetto attraverso l’Academy e l’utilizzo degli strumenti che mettiamo a disposizione.

La nuova avventura di Sergio è appena iniziata, dedicherà infatti le prossime 8 settimane al progetto in loco.
Se vuoi essere parte della squadra e accompagnarlo nel suo viaggio, puoi farlo sostenendo una o più iniziative:
- 10 euro per un pallone da basket
- 15 euro per un paio di scarpe da basket
- 20 euro per offrire una merenda energetica (gustose banane) ad una squadra di 20 bambini per un mese di allenamenti
- 25 euro per aggiungere 5 kg di carne al menù settimanale di 150 bambini (appena 5 kg, 33 gr. a testa a settimana)
- 30 euro la retta mensile per uno studente Primary School (scuola, vitto, alloggio e assicurazione sanitaria)
- 40 euro la retta mensile per uno studente High School (scuola, vitto, alloggio e assicurazione sanitaria)
- 150 euro lo stipendio mensile di un coach della basketball Academy…e con un offerta libera puoi contribuire alla realizzazione di un CAMPO DA BASKET ( costo stimato 10.000 euro) presso il villaggio di Lodungoqwe, attualmente in terra battuta

 

Samburu Smile is a non-profit association, founded in 2013 by Sergio Mazza, mini basketball instructor and former professional player. Sergio after a trip to Kenya decided to try to make his dream come true and create a basketball school in Africa.
Sport is the core of the whole project, which has as its primary purpose to enable education to the many children of the villages in the area of Samburu, 550km north of Nairobi, providing them with tools and possibilities to redemption in order to improve their living conditions.
Over the course of the two months of each trip to Kenya, Sergio's work, and of the volunteers who decide to support him, is focused on training local coaches, building and maintaining the infrastructure needed to develop the sports activities of the Academy, and verifying that there are no particular issue that obstruct the growth process of the children who join the project.
In recent years, 10 local coaches have been trained and 3 Basketball Academies have been created in the villages of Tuum, Suguta Marmar and Lodungoqwe. 43 scholarships have been awarded to date and more than 2000 children benefit from the project through the Academy and the use of the tools we provide.
The summer adventure of Sergio in 2019 just started.
He’ll dedicate the next 8 weeks to the project in loco.
