💙 PERCHÉ QUESTO EVENTO ?

Il deficit del complesso del piruvato deidrogenasi (PDH) è una malattia genetica, mitocondriale rara che colpisce bambini come Federico, un ragazzo romano di 16 anni che ci ispira ogni giorno con la sua forza e determinazione.

Nonostante una dieta chetogenica rigidissima, farmaci quotidiani e continue terapie, Federico sogna in grande (vuole diventare uno specialista in cybersicurezza!), ama i suoi animali (2 cani e 6 gatti!), passare tempo con gli amici e segue con passione le novità scientifiche.

Questa giornata nasce per aumentare la consapevolezza, condividere informazioni e sostenere la ricerca scientifica.

Sarà un’occasione per stare insieme, imparare, emozionarsi e fare la differenza. L’evento è aperto a tutti, adulti e bambini.

Da oltre 10 anni, la Freya Foundation, basata in UK, è al centro del sostegno verso le famiglie che convivono con il PDH. Come tale sta attualmente portando avanti un progetto di ricerca con l’University College of London (UCL), mirato a comprendere meglio il PDH e ad avanzare lo sviluppo di una terapia genica.

💙 WHY THIS EVENT ?

Pyruvate dehydrogenase complex deficiency (PDH) is a rare mitochondrial, genetic disease that affects children like Federico, a 16-year-old Roman boy who inspires us every day with his strength and determination.

Despite a very strict ketogenic diet, daily medication and continuous therapies, Federico dreams big (he wants to become a cybersecurity specialist!), loves his animals (2 dogs and 6 cats!), spends time with friends and passionately follows new scientific developments.

This day was created to raise awareness, share information and support scientific research.

Form a team with family, colleagues and/or friends and join us on a themed path throughout the park: you will find information and interactive stands to learn about the daily challenges of Federico and other patients with PDH. It will be an opportunity to spend time together, learn, laugh and make a difference. The event is open to everyone, adults and children.

For over 10 years, the UK-based Freya Foundation has been at the heart of supporting families living with PDH. As such, it is currently carrying out a research project with University College London (UCL), aimed at better understanding PDH and advancing the development of gene therapy.
