SCORE FOR SCHOLARSHIPS - MATHARE

Slums Dunk sostiene e supporta ogni anno circa 150 bambini all'interno dello slum di Mathare (la seconda baraccopoli di Nairobi, 95.000 persone in 2,5 km quadrati) coinvolgendoli all'interno della propria Basketball Academy.

La Basketball Academy vede protagonisti 3 allenatori locali: Sly, Tom e Winnie,che da 6 anni vengono formati e seguiti dall'Italia per fare in modo che la pallacanestro possa essere per i ragazzi non solo uno sport, ma un'occasione di crescita e di speranza per il futuro.

Un'incredibile risultato, fino a qualche tempo fa impensabile, ha visto negli ultimi 2 anni ben 50 ragazzi e ragazze della Basketball Academy di Slums Dunk, ottenere una borsa di studio (SCHOLARSHIP) per meriti sportivi, avendo la possibilità di frequentare l'Highschool negli istituti privati e di prestigio di Nairobi.

Senza lo sport i nostri ragazzi non avrebbero potuto permettersi di frequentare le scuole superiori,  proveniendo infatti dallo slum, non avrebbero altrimenti le disponibilità economiche per coprirne il costo.

DI COSA HANNO BISOGNO I NOSTRI RAGAZZI??

Di questi 50, sono 15 quelli che hanno appena ottenuto la SCHOLARSHIP, gli istituti copriranno loro i costi di vitto e alloggio, ma i nostri ragazzi hanno bisogno di un supporto molto semplice e al tempo stesso davvero importante per vivere in tranquillità le proprie giornate di studenti e atleti.

Devono infatti acquistare tutti gli strumenti utili a frequentare la scuola e a vivere all'interno dei nuovi collegi che li accoglieranno, quali:

- MATERIALI DI CANCELLERIA E LIBRI (penne, quaderni, libri...);

- LENZUOLA E BIANCHERIA;

- ZANZARIERE PER LA NOTTE;

- DIVISE E VESTITI DI RICAMBIO.

Per ogni bambino il costo di un KIT è di circa 300 euro, troppo per le loro famiglie.

Un piccolo aiuto da parte vostra corrisponde a un supporto concreto e inestimabile, vale un'occasione per i nostri ragazzi di costruirsi un futuro ben diverso da quello a cui sembra destinato chi nasce e cresce all'interno di uno SLUM.

Insieme, con la pallacanestro, abbiamo dato la possibilità a questi ragazzi di vivere un sogno, aiutaci a tenerlo vivo segnando con noi il canestro decisivo: "SCORE FOR SCHOLARSHIPS"!!

Over the last  6 years our Basketball Academy in Mathare  has been supervised by  3 local coaches  previously  trained by us :   Sly,  Tom and Winnie. We constantly supervise and encourage them  from  Italy and they  endeavour to ensure that basketball is not only a sport for the children but also an important  opportunity for growth and hope for the future.

Each year Slums Dunk sustains and supports over 150 children from the Mathare slum through it's  basketball Academy (the second biggest slum in Nairobi : 95,000 people living in 2.5 square km).

During the last 2 years as many as 50 boys and girls of the Slums Dunk Basketball Academy have received scholarships for sporting merits giving them the opportunity to attend High School  at some of the prestigious private Institutes in Nairobi.  An incredible result that we would never of imagined possible until some time ago.

These children would never have had this opportunity without sport, coming from the slum their families would never have been able to support them financially through High School!

WHAT DO OUR KIDS NEED?

15 kids have just obtained their scholarship. The institutes will cover their food and accommodation costs, but they  still  need financial support  with the basics in order to face their day to day life at school as students and athletes in a positive and serene manner.

They need to purchase all the necessary stationary and basics to attend school and to live in the colleges that will host them such as:

- STATIONERY MATERIALS AND BOOKS (pens, notebooks, books ...);

- BED LINEN, TOWELS, TOILETRIES ETC

- MOSQUITO NETS FOR THE NIGHT;

- UNIFORMS AND CAUSAL CLOTHES.

The total budget for each child  is around 300 euros, unfortunately too much for their families.

A little help from you would be a solid  and invaluable support for these children.
Your help  would give them a concrete opportunity to build a future that would be otherwise completely out of their reach.

Together, through  basketball,  we have given these kids the opportunity to live a dream.
