Era l’8 febbraio del 2022 quando a Sofia è stato diagnosticato il diabete di tipo 1.

Aveva 5 anni e da quel momento la sua vita, e la vita di tutta la nostra famiglia, è stata stravolta.

Da allora la nostra quotidianità è fatta di calcoli, incertezze, ansie e mancanza di spensieratezza, perché il diabete di tipo 1 è una malattia cronica, autoimmune e, al momento, incurabile.

Mi chiamo Simone Uras e ho deciso di partecipare alla Milano Marathon come fundraiser per la FONDAZIONE ITALIANA DIABETE.

Correrò con uno zaino in spalla, a simboleggiare il peso che ogni persona affetta da diabete di tipo 1 deve portarsi dietro ogni giorno, ogni ora, ogni minuto per tutta la vita.

Ora chiudi gli occhi e prova ad immaginare.

Immagina di svegliarti ogni giorno con la consapevolezza che il diabete di tipo 1 è parte integrante della vita di tua figlia.

Immagina di doverle fare iniezioni ogni giorno, di controllare costantemente la glicemia e di vivere con la paura delle complicazioni a lungo termine.

Immagina di dover decidere ogni giorno il dosaggio del farmaco che salva la vita a tua figlia, sapendo che un dosaggio errato è potenzialmente mortale.

Questa è la quotidianità di chi vive con il diabete di tipo 1 e della sua famiglia.

It was February 8, 2022 when Sofia was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

She was 5 years old and since then her life, and the life of our whole family, has been turned upside down.

Since then, our everyday life has been made up of calculations, uncertainties, anxieties and a lack of carelessness, because type 1 diabetes is a chronic, autoimmune and, at the moment, incurable disease.

My name is Simone Uras and I decided to participate in the Milan Marathon as a fundraiser for the FONDAZIONE ITALIANA DIABETE.

I will run with a backpack on my back, symbolizing the weight that every person with type 1 diabetes must carry with them every day, every hour, every minute throughout their lives.

Now close your eyes and try to imagine.

Imagine waking up every day with the knowledge that type 1 diabetes is an integral part of your child's life.

Imagine having to give her injections every day, constantly checking her blood sugar, and living in fear of long-term complications.

Imagine having to decide every day on the dosage of the drug that saves your daughter's life, knowing that an incorrect dosage is potentially deadly.

This is the daily life of those living with type 1 diabetes and their family.
