Beat the Beat.

ENGLISH VERSION

Beat the Beat. Support research. Defeat the arrhythmic heart.

You have surely already heard about it in relation to some famous sportsmen and athletes such as Astori, Morosini and Puerta.

It is the main cause of "sudden death" in sports. Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy" (ARVD / C) is congenital hereditary disease that affects 1 in 5000 young people and causes 2 deaths every 100.000 people under 35 yrs of age.

This disease develops during the teenage years when youngsters  devote themselves more intensely to sports, unaware that they might carry the gene for this disease.

This cardiomyopathy requires the suspension of sports activity precisely at an age in which the practice of sports plays a very important role in the formation, development and education of a person.

A disease that today has no cure, it is "buffered" with antiarrhythmic drugs that keep the heart rate under control and precisely does not go “out of rhythm” and in some cases by inserting an ICD defibrillator.

But now, after many years of research we could be close to a turning point !

Professor Alessandra Rampazzo and her team from the Department of Human Molecular Biology at the University of Padua have achieved encouraging results in testing a drug that has been shown in the laboratory to block the mechanisms responsible for the disease.

But many funds are needed to continue the experimentation.
